RPG Rules
While some rules may look familiar, others wont. Please review all rules.
Basic RPG Rules
Originality
All characters used in Last Horizon must be original characters that have been created by their writers.
No use of already created characters from already existing franchises (Marvel/Harry Potter/Game of Thrones/Nightmare on Elm Street/etc..) your character must be your own. This does not mean you cannot use these franchises as inspiration for your characters. You just cannot use characters that are already established in franchises. Just to be clear, no person can create Iron Man, Ron Weasly, Jon Snow, Freddy Kugar and such. You can use these characters as inspiration but nothing more than that.
No use of real life beings. Such as creating an account for a known celebrity, politician, big company CEOs and so forth. Use of them for NPC reasons is fine so long as you do not kill them (Unless you obtain consent from moderators)
You can create your own mythological characters that are connected to mythologies (Celtic, Egyption, Greek, Maya, etcā¦) But you cannot create actual mythological beings, Gods/Goddesses such as Hercules, Hunahpu and Xbalanque, Osiris, Loki and such. This is to keep mythologies open for others in the future.
If you plagiarize a character that is not yours from another site you will be banned. We do not tolerate that.
Concept Ownership
Every user is assumed to have 100% control of the concepts they create (including, but not limited to: characters, NPCs, locations, organizations, and technology).
This control only extends to specific, named concepts (so one cannot claim ownership of broad concepts like alien robots, powered armor, power-granting substances, etc; ownership would be for concepts like companies you created, specific drugs a writer created, teams, family names, etc).
Permission must be obtained from a concept's "owner" prior to usage; permission can be granted in any ooc thread. You may also grant another user permission to use a concept in PM. You should always keep a link/PM where the agreement was done to show a mod in the event of a dispute.
Copy/pasting material into your bio is only permissible if you either are or have permission from the author of what you are copy/pasting (this includes both material from other users' bios and from sources like wikis); otherwise this constitutes plagiarism. This doesn't mean you can't have the same powers/abilities as another user's character, but at least be willing to take the time to write them out in your own words. Users put a lot of time and effort into their characters' bios; if you're not willing to do the same, don't make a character. It's that simple.
Note that there is a difference between giving someone permission to use a concept, and giving someone ownership of a concept. Permission to use a concept may be rescinded at any time by the concept's creator. Transference of ownership is exactly that; you are effectively giving someone else full authority over your concept, and waiving all rights to it (unless that person gives it back to you). Be sure to specify which you are doing.
Use of another user's concepts without permission will be considered god-modding and addressed as such; consequences can range from such use being declared non-canonical to moderator action for inciting unnecessary drama. If this is something that happens frequently with a single user, that user may be banned.
Location Creation
To avoid an overcrowding of location creations, those who wish to create a location may do so after having a consistent 100 posts for that character to show that you are dedicated with that character and growing development. We understand that some may want a dedicated city for that character or a business, but the writer needs to show that they are going to grow and develop that character and the location they create for that character. Not just create and leave the thread with no development and drop the character a couple of weeks later.
One way to avoid the 100 posts is to set up a proposal of your location idea to the mods and they will decide if the location can be created ahead of the post count.
Also please note DO NOT import locations from other sites UNLESS you can prove they are your own personal creation. Do not take a location/concept and such for your own by taking it from another site. If this is done and mods find out, you will be banned from the site. We do not tolerate plagiarism.
Locations that are businesses/team/character homes will be locked if/when the creator is no longer active on the site or has announced a retirement. If/when the creator is active once more they may request for their thread to be unlocked. This is to prevent these threads from being bumped for no reason other than to bump it.
Empire Claim
What do these rules apply to?
This applies to all of the main Last Horizon canon. It does not apply to empires outside the solar system, other dimensions, imaginary universes, alternate universes, future universes, or absolutely anything besides the solar system of the main LH Universe. Outside of that you can do as you please!
What counts as an Empire?
Do you govern land, dictating political policies, controlling a country's natural resources and or borders? Have you replaced a country's army with your own, or do you possess an army? In short if you have any significant control over territory inside the solar system then you have an empire.
The Requirements.
To avoid problems in the future there are a few small and simple requirements to possess a LH Canon Empire.
At least 200 rpg posts with the character you are proposing to use for the claim. Because Empires are a significant presence in the world, and this requires a mods time you should have shown at least enough dedication to get 200 rpg posts. This shows that you are also taking the time to develop not just the character but the story behind them and establish further canon in the LhU and not just doing an empire claim to just do one.
This should also show you understand the basics of RPing, and can get along with other people.
How do I create a cannon Empire?
STEP ONE:
Create the OOC.
You must give everyone who wishes to defend that territory the chance to do so. Period. Doing otherwise is Godmodding.
Taking unclaimed territory. You must give anyone who wishes to contest your attack three days to respond to the OOC. Anyone who wants to defend the territory and posts in the OOC with the names of the defending characters must be allowed into the RP. Anyone who is not listed by the end of the three days may not participate in the empire claim.
Taking claimed territory. A full week must be granted for territory already claimed by an existing team. They must post the names of characters that intend to defend the territory, and must then be allowed into the RP. Anyone who is not listed by the end of the three days may not participate in the empire claim.
STEP TWO:
Wait for a mod. Oncethe proper time has passed a mod will come and look at the OOC to ensure that all RP rules have been followed. They will also read over any objections that players might have and make a decision.
STEP THREE:
The RPG itself must follow all the normal LhU rules. Godmodding and no-selling are the greatest dangers here, as players might be tempted to do one or the other to get their way.
In addition there are reasonable time limits. If one side goes more than a week without posting in the RP the other side is declared the winner. But to avoid months passing during an empire claim an empire claim may only go on for one month of itās creation date UNLESS an issue is brought up to a mod who can extend the time limit (which cannot go further than an additional month of the original creation date with exception of special circumstances). If the players involved are unable to come to an agreement about the results of the RP (who won) at the end of the time limit, a mod will decide (you don't want a mod to decide).
STEP FOUR:
Keeping your empire.
You are not required to defend your empire from everyone who attacks it, but you are expected to answer reasonable challenges AFTER a three month grace period. If the attacker is willing to put forth reasonable effort, create the OOC, and operate in line with the RP rules then you are also required to follow the rules about no-selling.
This is important! Please note that it is against the Last Horizon rules to no-sell. That includes fights over empires, they are not somehow an exception.
Again if the players involved cannot decide who is the winner then mod will decide who the winner is.
Empire Claim Players! Please be sure that your characters involved in empire claim have all powers, equipment and skill set posted in your character's bio BEFORE the three day application process is done. If your character has an incomplete bio then your character will be kicked from the Empire Claim. This is because many people will God Mod their way but adding powers and items into their characters bio in the middle of an RP to help them win.
Questions regarding rules can be brought up to any mod in either the LhU discord or here on the site via PM. Once again, failure to follow these rules will result in a ban. So please, follow the rules.
While some rules may look familiar, others wont. Please review all rules.

- God Modding
God Modding is when your character automatically succeeds at something another character would have a reasonable chance of preventing. For example you cannot say your telepathy is so powerful it automatically succeeds against another character. Or you are such an amazing hacker you hacked their base defenses and there's nothing they can do about it. When your actions affect others they must be given the chance to defend.
Nothing automatically succeeds at the expense of something that belongs to someone else. - Auto-Hits
This is when someone RP's that their attacks hit another player, without that player's consent. You can RP throwing a million mile an hour punch, but no matter what the other character decides the results to their character. Everyone has control over their character. You can't take that away and say something automatically hits. - No-Selling
This is when you RP that all of another persons actions and attacks fail against you. This one is subject to a reasonable standard. Some characters are simple incapable of hurting others due to the powers involved, but please remember that the site isn't just for you to have fun its also for others to have fun. Causing everything they do to fail without exception isn't good RP, and its against the rules. - Controlling Others (without OOC permission)
This does not, and should not, require much explanation. Other people's characters belong to them, they decide what happens. Not you. Please be respectful of what belongs to other people. - Adding Powers/Items in the Middle/During RPGs
This is a low form of god-modding/no-selling and is just cheating. Donāt do it. The only time this would be acceptable is if you contact the people you are RPing with and ask if they mind you developing a new power or add a specific item to your characters equipment list.
In addition, all characters should already have powers and equipment added to their bios prior to Rping with them unless it is ok with the people you are rping with.

- Omnipotent Characters
All omnipotent characters need clearance by a mod before being created. If your character is not approved, then they will not be accepted into the LhU and will not be allowed in any events. This applies for all universes.
